Welcome Cardinal Parents. This page is to better inform our parents about the purpose and results STAR Assessments will have on your child's education.
STAR Assessments are computer-adaptive tests that continually adjust the difficulty of each child's test by choosing each test question based on the child's previous response. If the student answers a question correctly, the next question's difficulty is increased, and if a student answer's a question incorrectly, the difficulty is decreased. Computer-adaptive tests save time and allow the test to comile more accurate data on a student's strengths and weaknesses.
Assessments are given in the subject areas of ELA and Math. On average, students complete both the Math and ELA tests in under one hour. STAR testing offers immediate results to teachers, and gives feedback on specific strengths and weaknesses aligned to the Common Core State Standards. In addition, the results are norm-referenced, and student's performance is instantly compared across the nation in a percentile metric.
These tests will be used to monitor student growth and increase a teacher's ability to deliver differentiated instruction to each child in the classroom. The Achdiocese has chosen three STAR Assessment screening windows divided up throughout the year. These testing results will be shared with parents.
As always, if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact your child's homeroom teacher about the STAR Assessment and how you can help your child continue to grow.
